George Denholm Armour (1864–1949) was one of Scotland's most accomplished sporting artists, celebrated for his masterful depictions of hunting, shooting and fishing subjects. Born in Edinburgh, he studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Schools before pursuing a successful career as both a painter and illustrator. His intimate knowledge of field sports and the countryside enabled him to portray animals with remarkable accuracy, vitality and character. Armour was particularly renowned for his studies of dogs, horses and game, producing works that combine confident draughtsmanship with a lively sense of movement and atmosphere.
