He and his wife, Shirley, lived at Halsdon Manor in Devon, where they managed a renowned Arabian stud farm and kept numerous dogs, reflecting their deep commitment to animal welfare.
Charles Edward Stewart (fl. 1887–1938) was a Scottish painter celebrated for his atmospheric landscapes and sporting scenes. Trained at the Royal Academy Schools in London and the Académie Julian in Paris, Stewart became known for his depictions of Highland scenery, rural life, and hunting subjects, exhibited widely throughout Britain and Ireland. His work combines careful observation with a warm and nostalgic sensibility, capturing the quiet drama of the British countryside.
